Statement

I strive to capture a moment of beauty, as I see it , perhaps in a passage of light through leaves, reflections in deep water, or in the sublime serenity of a most mundane object.

Most of my paintings are done in oil or pastel. I have worked in other art media and have learned to appreciate the beauties of each. A small plein air oil painting may say it all in one exclamation, or a larger studio pastel may ask for a leisurely pace in getting out the details of its vision.

In the last couple of years I have pursued plein air painting. There is no better way to understand color and light. I imagine painting to be like a crazy game of three-dimensional chess, maneuvering among the elements of design, the weather, the changing light, and even the local wildlife.
